Write a book in a day

Fb winners

Nine talented Year 11 students recently took part in the annual Write a Book in a Day competition, writing and illustrating an entire book in just one day to support the Kids鈥 Cancer Project. This year, the competition saw 14,146 writers in 1,939 teams, raising $920,000 for childhood cancer research.

We are delighted to announce that this incredible group of 国产探花 boys not only took out the Best Book Award for NSW/ACT but also received the National Award for Best Book Upper School for their book 鈥淭otemic Guidance鈥! We鈥檙e so proud of their creativity, teamwork and dedication to making a difference. Congratulations to Reg A, John T, Matthew R, Marc A, Benjamin K, Spencer C, Samuel N, Alex L and Jude T on this amazing achievement. Here are some insights from the boys on their experience:

What was the key to your success?

The key to our success was teamwork and the agency expressed by John T and the rest of the team. Time management and originality were also the rationale to our success. We constructed a story line within the first half hour and kept developing it from our original ideas. Ultimately, our ability as schoolmates to work cooperatively helped us create a story we all loved.

What did you enjoy the most?

We enjoyed the opportunity to put ourselves into the minds of others; where we were able to connect with an Indigenous lifestyle through our story and our inspirations from Aboriginal culture 鈥 we had King Stingray music playing, and we embodied what we have learned about Aboriginal culture at 国产探花.

What did you find challenging?

We found the issue of writer鈥檚 block very challenging, but we continued to persevere and turned to Aboriginal inspirations in culture, art, music and Dreamtime stories. We found that inspiration lies everywhere, and looking into our own world helped us to create amazing ones in fiction.

Some word of advice

Keep going 鈥 you never know where the road leads. We thought our book was underpar and had no hope, until we realised that by persevering through our challenges, we found inspiration in places we never thought we would, and ended up creating something we were truly proud of.
